During his interview with McMahon, Trubisky recounted the story of a preliminary dinner that he had organized with general manager Ryan Pace in North Carolina in 2017. The Bears wanted to keep their interest secret for Trubisky. The quarter has reserved the restaurant under the "James McMahon" in tribute to the champion of the Super Bowl XX.

"It really helped me get to Chicago," Trubisky said of McMahon. "I think Ryan Pace and the staff really liked that. It was as if it was meant to be. I am exactly where I am supposed to be. It's really like that.

The Bears commemorate their 100th season celebrating their illustrious history and their bright future this weekend in Rosemont. The entire 2019 team is present for the festivities with about 130 alumni.

Before the Friday night electric opening ceremony, players from the last six decades of Bears football mixed up in a private ballroom.

"It's really unique," said Trubisky. "Being among the current Bears is a special privilege to interact with some of the guys and allow everyone to come back and feel that tradition. It's really a family Bears.

Trubisky enjoyed getting to know McMahon, who compiled a 46-15 record as starting in seven seasons with the Bears from 1982 to 1988.

"There are certain qualities you need to be able to play quarterback in the city of Chicago and succeed in doing so," Trubisky said. "He knew how to win games. They had big teams. It's a hilarious guy. Everyone knows his personality. It is awesome."

One of Trubisky's highlights this weekend has been hearing from former players discussing "their love for the city of Chicago and even more for each other and the way these relationships are going beyond football and last a lifetime ".

Several alumni told Trubisky how pleased they were to see the Bears go from worst to worst and win the NFC North 12-4 last season.

"I think the coolest thing is that they are watching us," Trubisky said. "The guys we've been looking for and who we idolize and want to be like are excited and proud of what we accomplished last year.

"It motivates us even more to want to go out and win games, you want to play for more than yourself, this great organization and the players who have come before you, so we have to keep working hard, playing hard football and all leave on the line. "
