A new resolution proposed by Republicans at Pennsylvania House calls on heads of state to withdraw certification of presidential election results and appoint constituency delegates.
The resolution, released on Friday, was signed by 26 representatives “declaring that the results of statewide contests in the 2020 general election were contested,” despite the certification of the results on Tuesday by the Secretary of State. State of Pennsylvania Kathy Boockvar, signed by Governor Tom Wolf, confirming that President-elect Joe Biden is the winner. A similar resolution was signed by four state senators from the GOP.
Republicans control both the state Senate and the House of Representatives, but leaders each have said they have no plans to overturn the results and award the 20 electoral votes in the State of Keystone to President Donald Trump. The resolution called on Congress to “declare that the selection of presidential voters in this Commonwealth is in dispute.”
State Senator Doug Mastriano has also shown his support for the selection of delegates by lawmakers rather than Wolf. On Saturday morning, he posted a Twitter thread calling on the state legislature to choose voters. “This power was given to the state legislature for the purpose of safeguarding the appointment of our president, specifically considering corruption and ensuring that the people are not deprived of their rights by a corrupt electoral process.” , he tweeted.

Mastriano cited Article II, section 1.2 of the Constitution, which reads as follows:
Each state appoints, in such manner as its legislature may order, a number of electors equal to the total number of senators and representatives to which the state may be entitled in Congress: but no senator or representative, nor any person holding an Office of Trust or Profit in the United States, will be nominated as a voter.
On Saturday morning, Trump posted a tweet that appeared to refer to efforts by local lawmakers using the constitutional argument. “So much credit to all the courageous men and women of the State Houses who defend our great Constitution,” he wrote.

The Trump campaign has filed numerous lawsuits in Pennsylvania, trying to overturn the election results without success. On Friday, he tweeted Mastriano, claiming the election was “rigged” and that he really was the winner in Pennsylvania.

Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani offered similar suggestions to local leaders to try to get the legislature to appoint delegates at a meeting Wednesday by the state Senate’s Majority Political Committee. “It is the state legislature that controls this process,” he said. “It’s your power. It’s your responsibility. And I think you know that, and you have to convince the rest of your members, Republicans and Democrats, [that] they owe it to the people of their state, and they owe it to the people of the United States. “
Despite the efforts to overturn the election results, many officials in the state legislature have not hesitated and are not planning to change positions in the choice of voters. “Our position in the voters’ seat has not changed and we have no role,” GOP House spokesman told York Dispatch.
In an October editorial in the Daily hours of the center, State Senator Jake Corman and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, both Republicans, said the state’s General Assembly would not decide voters or the presidential election.

The certification revealed that Biden beat Trump by more than 80,000 votes.
