President Trump announced Sunday that the former head of the US border patrol led by President Barack Obama would be the new head of his administration in charge of Immigration and Customs (ICE).
Trump announced on Sunday in a tweet that Mark Morgan would assume the leadership of ICE, replacing former acting director of ICE, Ronald Vitiello, who had resigned earlier this month .
"I am pleased to inform all those who believe in a strong, fair and solid immigration policy that Mark Morgan will join the Trump administration at the helm of our ICE workers," Trump tweeted Sunday. "Mark is a true American believer and patriot and will do a good job!"
Morgan has criticized the attempts – the absence of such attempts – of Congress to end the crisis of migration on the South American border with Mexico.

Morgan said that what Congress should do, is to repair the so-called Flores settlement, which prevents migrant families and children caught illegally from crossing the border from being detained for more than 20 years. days.
Morgan also said in a previous interview on Fox News that he supported an idea suggested by President Trump to send border immigrants into sanctuary towns.
"Border patrols, ICEs, their facilities are overwhelmed, religious organizations and other nongovernmental organizations are overwhelmed," Morgan said. "They do not have a choice. They will have to start evicting these people. Should not we somehow share the burden across the country?

Morgan, who served for the last six months of the Obama administration and a seemingly unlikely source of support for President Trump, said, "I'm here and I broke my silence for a reason: because it's a fact."
