Cohen, who was sentenced to jail last year for pleading guilty to financial crimes and campaign financing violations, testified publicly before the House's Oversight and Reform Committee. His testimony included several allegations that Trump had committed crimes over the years.
Among other things, Cohen said Trump had ordered him to break the law and pay a secret payment to adult movie star Stormy Daniels, who claimed to have had an affair with the president.
Republican lawmakers rejected Cohen's credibility, pointing out that he had already admitted to having lied to Congress on the planned construction of a Trump tower in Moscow.
Trump Friday accused Cohen of committing perjury "on a scale never seen before," citing the manuscript of the book as evidence.

According to the Daily Beast, the book proposed by Cohen, titled tentatively "Trump Revolution: White House Tower, including Donald J. Trump," was dropped in May 2018 because of the legal difficulties faced by the former fixer.
"We have never seen a manuscript from Mr Cohen," Rolf Zettersten, editor of Center Street, who was planning to publish Cohen's book, said last week.
Lanny Davis, counselor and lawyer for Cohen, told The Hill last week that Cohen had been seen offering a "substantial" advance last year for a book on the president. Davis said that Cohen had declined the offer.
