An impeachment attorney for former President Donald Trump lambasted video evidence presented by Democrats on Tuesday, which he said was likely fabricated by a major movie company to fool American audiences.
“It’s very easy to get up and show spliced and fabricated movies,” David Schoen told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Tuesday night.
Schoen was referring to a lengthy video edit shown by Senior House Director Jamie Raskin on the first day of Senate arguments in Trump’s second impeachment trial.
The 14-minute production brought together snippets of Trump’s speech and footage of his supporters, as well as footage of the deadly riot.
“Literally the Democrats, the directors of the House, probably hired a big movie company and a big law firm to set up this thing,” Schoen told Hannity.
Trump’s Jan.6 speech is at the center of the Democrats’ impeachment case, as they will claim he instigated his supporters to march on Capitol Hill in a bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Schoen said the video was intended to mislead the American people into giving the impression that the two events happened simultaneously.
“Why do we want to deceive the American people? And listen, they have great entertainment value. People are stuck with a film that is professionally made like that, ”he says.
Without naming him, Hannity also asked Schoen about the “improvised” and “somewhat sinuous” opening remarks by fellow Trump lawyer Bruce Castor, noting that his remarks had been the subject of strong criticism from officials. Democrats and Conservatives.
Schoen defended Castor and said he doesn’t plan to perform today.
“I’m sure they will be very well prepared going forward and will do a great job in this matter,” Schoen said of Castor and his law firm.
