Former President Trump was “furious” and “beyond anger” at his defense team’s presentation on day one of his second impeachment trial despite his almost certain final acquittal, two sources told Tuesday. Fox News.

The sources, who have spent time with Trump, said he was particularly angered at the efforts so far made by his lawyer Bruce Castor. Trump believes Castor gave a rambling opening argument, they said. Castor’s 45-minute opening remarks were circulated widely on social media after praising House impeachment officials for a job “well done.”
“The American people just spoke and they just changed administration,” Castor said at one point. He said the public is smart enough to “pick a new administration if they don’t like the old one, and they just did.”
Castor’s comment prompted the Associated Press to publish the headline, “Trump never conceded he lost, but his impeachment lawyer did.”
Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Representative Jamie Raskin, the main impeachment official, was impressive and was “a serious lawyer.” He said Trump’s team did not have the most “efficient” performance.
Trump watched the proceedings from his quarters in Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, Florida. The AP, citing an anonymous source, said Trump was impressed with the Democrats’ opening video presentation. Trump’s team did not immediately respond to an email from Fox News.

Castor defended his performance in an interview after learning that Senator Bill Cassidy, R-La., Has sided with the Democrats, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“You put 100 people in the same room, you’re going to have 100 different opinions. We only lost one… so I think we had a good day, ”he said. Castor clarified that his “well-made” statement was not an acknowledgment that the Democratic case was more effective.
Cassidy said anyone who listened to Trump’s team “saw that they weren’t focused, they were trying to avoid the problem. And they were talking about everything but the problem at hand.”
The Journal noted that Trump’s legal team had very little time to prepare for trial.

The 50-50 Senate has started another trial that many Republicans say will do no more than fuel the division of the country. They say Democrats want nothing more than to score political points with the lawsuit and get one last chance to part ways against Trump.
Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., Forced a vote days ago to quash the lawsuit as unconstitutional because Trump is no longer in office, drawing 44 other Republicans to his argument. Paul’s measure suggested the near impossibility of securing a conviction in a Senate where Democrats hold 50 seats but a two-thirds vote – or 67 senators – would be needed to convict Trump.
David Schoen, another lawyer for Trump, told “Hannity” on Tuesday that he believed the trial was a very painful process for the country to endure. He said that a well edited video can have “great entertainment value”, but “it will not advance any good cause in the country.”
