White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and other Republican officials announced plans for the trial at a press conference Monday night ahead of its filing.

McEnany, who said she was appearing at the press conference in her personal capacity, described Pennsylvania as “a case study of how to tip the scales of an election to functionally favor the Democratic Party.” McEnany also claimed Democrats “welcomed” fraud and illegal voting, but did not provide specific evidence of votes known to be fraudulent in the election.

Some electoral law experts have expressed skepticism that the trial will win.

“It seems very unlikely to be successful,” said Rick Hasen, professor of law at the University of California, Irvine. “Some of the claims have already been dismissed by the court, others are the kind of claims that could have been filed months ago and are now too late.”
