WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump reiterated on Saturday the criticism of the US Federal Reserve and said the US central bank's restrictive monetary policy is contributing to the strength of the dollar and the competitiveness of the United States.

"We have a man who loves a very strong dollar in the Fed," Trump said at a conservative political action conference. "I want a strong dollar, but I want an excellent dollar for our country, not a dollar so strong that we can not deal with other countries."

Trump, who has made the economy a key part of his political platform, has repeatedly criticized the Federal Reserve and its chairman, Jerome Powell, whom he had named at the head of the Fed, for raising rates. interest. The US central bank recently announced that it would be "patient" before tightening its monetary policy further.
