In one of his last acts before leaving office on Wednesday, President Donald Trump pardoned Casey Urlacher, brother of the great Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears.

Urlacher, the mayor of the small suburban town of Mettawa, Illinois, was indicted last year along with several others in a sports gambling case that could have led to a federal prison sentence. Urlacher is said to have helped the leader, Vincent “Uncle Mick” DelGiudice, manage an illegal multi-million dollar sports gambling network while tracking down debts. The ring involved up to 1,000 players.

Urlacher has pleaded not guilty to one count of participation in the gambling conspiracy and one count of operating an illegal gambling business.

Perhaps Casey’s most famous brother has something to do with his forgiveness. Brian visited the White House in March 2020, shortly after Casey was indicted, and spoke privately with Trump. This prompted speculation that he was pressuring Trump to forgive Casey for his alleged crimes.

The White House released a statement on Urlacher’s pardon on Wednesday.

President Trump has granted Casey Urlacher a full pardon. This forgiveness is supported by his friends and family, as well as countless members of his community. Mr. Urlacher was charged with conspiracy to engage in illegal gambling. Throughout his life, Mr. Urlacher was committed to public service and has always given back to his community. Currently, Mr. Urlacher is the unpaid mayor of Mettawa, Illinois. He is a devoted husband to his wife and a loving father to his 17 month old daughter.

Urlacher was charged with nine other people in connection with the illegal sports gambling network. However, he was the only one pardoned by Trump. The other co-defendants still face charges.
