President Trump said Thursday that he was giving Mexico a "one-year warning" to end migration and drug flows in the United States, otherwise he would slap customs duties on manufactured cars here and close the southern border.
"We will give them one year's notice and if the drugs do not stop for the most part, we will put tariffs on Mexico and products, especially cars," he said. told the press. "And if it does not stop the drug, we close the border."

The warning is a step back from the threat it launched last week as it threatened to close the border this week unless Mexico stops "illegal immigration" into the United States.
On Tuesday, his position appeared to moderate, when he told reporters that Mexico had begun taking further steps to prevent migrants from entering the United States, and White House officials have said that closing the border was one of many options.

Trump will travel to Calexico, California on Friday, where he will visit part of the recently completed border fence, and will also participate in a roundtable with local law enforcement officials.
