Former President Donald Trump will hold his next campaign-style rally in Alabama later this month, his political organization said on Monday.
Trump will travel to Cullman, located roughly halfway between Birmingham and Huntsville on Interstate 65, to deliver remarks on August 21, according to Save America. The rally will take place the same day the state’s Republican Party holds its summer meeting, also in Cullman.
The 45th president won Alabama by more than 25 percentage points in the 2016 and 2020 elections. However, as Trump traveled to Yellowhammer state in 2019 to witness the college football showdown between the Alabama and LSU, he has not delivered a speech in the state since September 2017.
On this occasion, Trump traveled to Huntsville to campaign for the then senator. Luther Strange in the special election to occupy the seat of Jeff Sessions, whom Trump had chosen to be his attorney general. Strange lost a second round to controversial lawyer Roy Moore, who was in turn beaten by Democrat Doug Jones amid allegations of sexual misconduct by Moore.
Trump had better luck with his next Alabama endorsement in 2020, as former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville beat underprivileged sessions in a second round before toppling Jones.
The former president also endorsed firebrand representative Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) In next year’s Senate GOP primary to replace Richard Shelby, who is retiring.
Trump returned to the rally circuit this summer with events in Ohio and Florida, stoking speculation about a possible race to return to the White House in 2024.
AL.com reported last month that Trump was scheduled to hold a July 4 rally at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile. However, that plan fell through when members of the commission overseeing the park expressed concerns about the legality of hosting an event that could be considered “partisan”.
Trump finally organized a rally on July 3 in Sarasota, Florida.
