President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a White House press conference on Wednesday before the third night of the Democratic National Convention.

The White House briefing room event marks Trump’s first press conference since former Vice President Joe Biden became the official Democratic candidate for the 2020 election on Tuesday night.

The press conference comes as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc in the United States. The United States has recorded more than 5.48 million cases of Covid-19 and at least 171,800 deaths from the virus, according to the ‘Johns Hopkins University.

Heads of state are working to balance efforts to mitigate the spread of the disease with plans to reopen schools for in-person learning. Trump called for the schools to be immediately reopened.

Trump will also be likely to be asked about the U.S. Postal Service, which has become a major source of controversy on Capitol Hill.

While lawmakers on both sides have expressed concerns over the mail delays reported following the agency’s overhaul by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, Democrats in particular have expressed concerns that the changes could have an impact on postal voting during the presidential race in November. Trump has repeatedly claimed without evidence that postal voting will lead to widespread fraud.
