President Trump marked the opening of Monday’s Democratic National Convention with a setback against his rivals, accusing former Vice President Joe Biden of staying “in his basement” and calling his running mate Senator Kamala Harris of “vicious” at the start of a whirlwind across the Midwest.
The president landed in Minneapolis, Minnesota early Monday afternoon, starting a week of travel for him through the main battlefield states.

The president, on landing, stopped on the tarmac to make impromptu remarks and called his Democratic opponents “fools”.
First, Trump hit Harris, D-Calif., Saying she “fell like a rock in the water” during the Democratic primaries and “left town before the first vote.”
“There was no one who was meaner and said more horrible things about Biden than she did,” Trump said, referring to the bad blood between Biden and Harris at the start of the primaries.
Trump called her “meaner, meaner and more vicious” than “Pocahontas,” referring to Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
The president then slammed Biden and the media, saying the press did not question the former vice president enough.
“Joe is in his basement,” Trump said. “He’s not going out. Nobody asks him questions.
The president, apparently mocking the media’s relationship with Biden, said: “Hi, are you enjoying your run? “Yeah,” Alright, great. “
“They don’t ask me these questions,” he said. “I have people. They have fire coming out of their eyes.
Meanwhile, the president went on to say that the Democrats were “removing the Second Amendment.”
“They are going to take your guns away from you,” Trump said. “As sure as you are here today, if they win, that’s what’s going to happen.”

He added, “Remember this, I’m the only thing standing in the way of your Second Amendment. It will either be removed or erased.
Trump went on to praise his administration’s efforts, citing his track record on cutting taxes and cutting regulations.
“We’ve built a strong case,” Trump said, citing “the choice of veterans and the responsibility of veterans.”
He added, “My heart is with the law-abiding Americans and my heart is also with the great men and women in law enforcement who are treated very badly.”
The president said his administration “will restore law and order”.
“You know the words law and order are words Democrats don’t like to use,” Trump said. “Nothing wrong with law and order.”
Trump said his “goal” was to “keep the streets safe” and to help “innocent Americans rebuild their lives.”
“That’s what I’m here for,” Trump said. “Democrats promise to elevate the war and bring it to the White House in the form of Sleepy Joe Biden.”
The president also predicted that Democrats, at their convention this week, will not say “a word about innocent victims or violence.”
The president’s comments come ahead of an event in Mankato, Minnesota on Monday that the campaign touted as “remarks on jobs and the economy,” not a rally.
The Trump campaign is hosting the event, which received a ticket, Fox News has learned. It is not known at this point how many guests have been invited to attend, but the guests are seated with social distancing measures in place.
The president, following the event in Minnesota, is expected to speak in Oshkosh, Wisc.
The events come as the president campaigns in key states on the general election battlefield concurrently with the Democratic National Convention.
The president is expected to visit Arizona on Tuesday, the second day of the Democrats’ event.
Although the Trump campaign has not announced the president’s trip for next Thursday, campaign officials confirmed to Fox News that Trump is expected to travel to Scranton, Pa. – the city where Biden was born and spent his early years. . The trip is expected to take place hours before Biden delivers his presidential nomination acceptance speech, which will be the biggest speech in his half-century of political career.
Typically, a presidential candidate will stay low while the opposition party holds its nominating convention – but Trump has proven repeatedly that he is not the type to adhere to political traditions.
