President Donald Trump was moved Wednesday when a member of the public at a rally in Florida suggested shooting at migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border.

Trump deplored the legal protections accorded to migrants and asserted the need for an anti-border wall when he asked rhetoric: "How do you stop these people?"

"Shoot them!" Someone shouted from the crowd in Panama City Beach, according to several media reports.

The remark caused a chuckle from the president, who then shook his head, said in the direction of the audience member and said: "It's only in the Panhandle that you can get away with it with this statement. "

"Only in the Panhandle," he repeated with laughter and applause from the crowd.

Before the break, Trump had mentioned "border security people" who, he said, are not allowed to use weapons against migrants.

"I mean, when you have 15,000 people walking, hundreds and hundreds of people, and you have two or three border security officers who are brave and great – and do not forget, we do not let them go and we can not let them use weapons, we can not, other countries do, we can not, I would never do that, "he said.

It was not clear if Trump was referring to the rules that border patrol officers must follow before using force.

In November, Trump suggested that US troops he deployed could shoot at migrants who were throwing stones. Later in the same month, the White House approved a note authorizing these troops to use lethal force on migrants if necessary. The wall: Border guards and the wall that they could monitor

In an interview with Sean Hannity, host of Fox News, in March, Trump said the threat of lethal force was a "very effective" way of deterring migrants, but said the United States "should not can do it. "

"We have to defend our country, you have people flocking in," he told Hannity. "Now we capture these people, we get them, but we do not do like other countries, other countries stay with machine guns ready to fire, we can not do that and I would not do that. "
