President Trump offered his condolences on Saturday to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on the death of Harrison Deal, an aide to Senator Kelly Loeffler and a family friend of the governor.
Kemp spokesman Cody Hall told The Hill in a statement that the president called the governor on Saturday morning and spoke about Deal, who was killed in a flaming wreck on 1-16 in Pooler, Ga. , near Savannah.
Georgian police told the Post it would take “some time” to find out what led to the three-car crash that killed the ambitious 20-year-old.
“The investigation is ongoing and could take some time,” said Pooler police spokeswoman Lindsey Heintzman, who initially said on Saturday the investigation could last more than a month, without giving details .
There were only three people involved in the crash, each driving one of the vehicles. The other two drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released, Heintzman said.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp called him “the Kemp son and brother we never had.”
Deal, a University of Georgia student, was close friends with Kemp’s daughter, Lucy, 19, also Bulldog.
“He was so special to me and I can’t imagine my life without him,” Lucy Kemp said in a statement to The Post on Saturday.
Deal is a graduate of Bulloch Academy in Statesboro, Georgia, where he grew up.
His father, Curt Deal, is a funeral home owner who is also a Bulloch County commissioner, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Deal got his start in politics working for his father’s campaign and the two seemed inseparable.
“As the panel says, he is the most honest, reliable and experienced candidate in the poll !!” Deal wrote about his father on Facebook.
