Trump, on the CPAC scene with the Berkeley assault victim, promises a decree on campus freedom of expression

President Trump announced Saturday that he will sign a decree to promote freedom of expression on college campuses.

Trump made the announcement at the conservative political action conference after addressing Hayden Williams, the conservative activist attacked last month at the University of California at Berkeley. The Conservatives accused some colleges of trying to suppress anti-liberal views.

"He took a punch for us all," said Trump of Williams. "And we could never allow that to happen. And here, ending with Hayden, here is the good news. He is going to be a rich young man. "

Trump urged Williams to sue the man who assaulted him, but added, "He probably has nothing."

The president encouraged Williams to pursue Berkeley as well.

Williams told Trump that students would continue to defend him as long as he would defend them.

"These students do it because they have a love for our country and for freedom and, frankly, a love for you, Mr. President," Williams said.

Trump told the songs of "U.S.A, U.S.A." that the decree would force colleges and universities to support freedom of expression in exchange for federal research funds.

"If they want our money, and we give it to them by the billions, they have to allow people like Hayden and a lot of other big kids and seniors to talk," Trump said. "Freedom of expression, if it is not the case, it will be expensive, it will be signed soon.

Zachary Greenberg, 28, was arrested on Friday under a warrant arrest accusing him of having hit Williams several times during a Feb. 19 attack.

Williams, 26, is a campus recruiter for The Leadership Institute, a conservative group.

Berkeley officials said Greenberg and Williams were not students.
