Trump returns to key Iowa battlefield for the first time since 2020

Former President Donald Trump is hosting a rally in Iowa on Saturday – his first stop in the competitive Central Plains state since last year’s election.

Iowa is also the state whose caucuses over the past half-century kicked off the presidential appointment schedule, and Trump’s ruling is sparking growing speculation that he will host another White House in 2024.

Iowa was once a key state of the battlefield, but Trump comfortably won his election for president in 2016 and defeat in 2020. He arrived in Hawkeye State after getting his best favorable marks in the Des Moines Register poll, considered the gold standard in this part of the country.

Fifty-three percent of Iowans had a favorable opinion of the former president and 45% have an unfavorable opinion, according to a Des Moines Register / Mediacom poll released on Monday. And among Republicans alone, it was 91% favorability.
