President Trump said on Wednesday that he was canceling the army's plan to decommission the US reactor. Harry S. Truman, promising that it will be updated "at the cost of a new fraction" instead.
"I am canceling the decommissioning order of the magnificent aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman, built in 1998 (quite new) and considered one of the largest and best in the world," tweeted President. "It will be updated at a fraction of the cost of a new one (which is also under construction)!"

The Navy has announced its intention to remove the aircraft carrier in February as part of a cost-cutting initiative to use more sophisticated aircraft carriers. The Navy said the decision not to refuel the Truman (with a new nuclear reactor normally installed mid-life of the ship after 25 years) and remove it earlier would save $ 30 billion.
Admiral John Richardson defended the move this week, saying it was important to keep the Navy technology moving.
"So we are trying to move, and that's exactly the decision-making dynamics with regard to what is most relevant for the future," said the admiral, according to the Washington Examiner. "Will it be the Harry S. Truman and his air wing where many innovations take place, or is it something else?"
But lawmakers on both sides of the aisle opposed the decision and Vice President Mike Pence visited Truman in Norfolk, Va., On Tuesday to announce Trump's decision.
