President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he had tried to give himself a medal of honor, but had decided not to do so after being made aware by one of his advisers.

The president's flippant remark came during his speech at the 75th Annual National Veterans Convention, a volunteer-led veterans service organization, also known as AMVETS.

At the event in Louisville, Kentucky, Trump singled out Woody Williams, a World War II veteran and recipient of the medal of honor.

"Thanks Woody. You look good, Woody. Woody looks good, "said Trump.

"It was a great day, Medal of Honor. Nothing like the medal of honor, "he continued. "I wanted one, but they said I did not qualify, Woody. I said, "Can I give it to me anyway?" They said, "I do not think it's a good idea."

In the midst of scattered laughter, Trump concludes: "Great people. These are very great men and women who receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Thank you, Woody.

The president said Wednesday night in the press that he was "the chosen one" with regard to the trade dispute between his administration and China, a proclamation he had awarded.

Trump never served in the military and got five adjournments – four for graduate studies and one for heel bone spurs.
