Trump says he won’t attend Biden inauguration

President Trump has said he will not attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden in two weeks. He made the announcement in a Tweeter Friday, as lawmakers consider ways to remove the president from office after a violent mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday.

The House could resume articles of impeachment against the president as early as next week, if Mr. Trump’s cabinet and Vice President Mike Pence do not act to remove him from office, Democratic leaders say. House Democrats are holding an appeal on Friday afternoon to discuss impeachment.

In a video released Thursday evening, after House of Commons Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and at least one Republican called on Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to impeach Mr. Trump, the president recognized that a new administration would take over on January 20.

“My focus now is on ensuring a smooth, orderly and transparent power transition,” the president said in a video, which he tweeted. “This moment calls for healing and reconciliation.”

Mr. Trump was allowed to return to Twitter after being temporarily banned. But Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said he will ban Mr Trump from using Facebook or Instagram for the remainder of his presidency.

“The shocking events of the past 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time to undermine the peaceful and legal transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden,” said Thursday Zuckerberg.

Meanwhile, two members of Mr. Trump’s cabinet resigned days before the end of his term, citing the siege on Capitol Hill, and several other White House officials are quitting their jobs.
