Trump says he would beat DeSantis in potential primary in 2024

“If I faced him, I would beat him like I beat everyone,” Trump said in an interview with Yahoo Finance Live, due for release Monday.

However, the former president said he didn’t think he would face DeSantis in 2024, adding that “I think most people would give up, I think he would give up.”

Trump’s comments come as speculation swirls over who will lead the GOP ticket in 2024, when Republicans seek to take over the White House.

A straw poll for the 2024 GOP presidential candidate at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in July gave DeSantis high marks.

When asked who participants would vote for in the Republican primary if it was held that day, 70% of those polled said Trump. DeSantis came in second with 21% of the vote.

When polling respondents without Trump as an option, however, DeSantis topped the poll by 68%.

DeSantis, a staunch supporter of Trump, is running for re-election in 2022. He told Fox News Sean hannitySean Patrick Hannity Michael Cohen: Trump is bluffing another White House offer 90% of full-time Fox Corp employees Thursday that he will run for governor again next year.

He also said that he “does not envision anything other than my job”.

The Hill has contacted DeSantis for comment.

Trump still has not announced if he plans to start another run for the White House in 2024, although he publicly flirts with the idea since losing the last election.

Trump told Hannity in a July interview that he had made a decision about his plans for 2024. Last month, the former president said it was an “easy question” if he would run again.

In August, a Quinnipiac University poll found that 60% of adults across the country believed it would be bad for the country if Trump ran for president in 2024.
