Trump says he's supporting an amendment to the ban on burning the American flag

President Trump has called for a constitutional amendment proposing to ban flag burning.

"Senator Steve Daines has proposed an amendment for a strong ban on burning our American flag," he said. wrote in a saturday tweet. "An evidence!"

The Republican Senator from Montana issued a press release on the suggested measure on Flag Day.

"Our United States flag is a timeless symbol of freedom that tells the story of America, the story of our ongoing quest for freedom," said Friday's statement. "By remembering the sacrifices of all those who have worn their colors in combat, our nation should always give back to the flag the honor and dignity that are due to it."

The statement also states that Daines attempted to launch a similar initiative in 2017 and 2018.

According to CNN, previous decisions of the US Supreme Court "protect the law under the First Amendment as a form of freedom of expression".
