Trump says "I will not stop it" if Fed Chairman Powell resigns

Before leaving for the G-7 in France late Friday night, President Trump told the press that he was not satisfied with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, saying that he did not think Powell was doing a very good job.

"Do I want him to resign?" Trump said in response to a reporter's question. "Let me say it this way: if he did, I would not stop him."

Trump blamed Powell for the volatility of the markets and told reporters that the tariffs of the administration on Chinese products were working well for the United States. He added that US companies in China were "ordered" to return to the United States.

At the large-scale press conference, the president also discussed controversies that occurred earlier this week.

Trump said he had had a "big talk" over the phone with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. A few days earlier, the president had canceled a planned visit to Denmark after Frederiksen had declared that it was "absurd" that Trump was considering buying back Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark. Trump had said the Prime Minister's comments were "bad guys", but called him a "wonderful woman" on Friday.

The president also hesitated when reporters asked him to say this week that he was "the chosen person" as part of his deal with China. "You know exactly what I mean," he says. "It was a sarcasm."

Trump said the other world leaders of the G-7 were "friends of mine – for the most part", but added that he was not satisfied with France's imposition of corporations American technology. He added that the United States could tax French wine as a reprisal "as they have never seen it before".
