The tweets follow an article in the New York Times, published Saturday night, which was written by the two authors of a new book on allegations of sexual misconduct that tainted Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings the year last. The authors wrote that they had uncovered an example of sexual misconduct that was not revealed publicly during these hearings.
The two authors, Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, wrote that one of Kavanaugh 's classmates at Yale had informed the senators and the FBI that he had witnessed Kavanaugh' s undressing during the summer break. a party in his first year, after which "friends pushed his penis into the hand of a student woman."
Kavanaugh did not comment on the authors and the classmate witnessed the incident declined to discuss it. The New York Times quoted two officials who communicated with this classmate.
The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the president's tweet.
At least one Democratic presidential candidate, former Housing Secretary Julian Castro, called on Kavanaugh to be indicted following the incident.
"It is clearer than ever that Brett Kavanaugh lied under oath and he should be removed," Castro wrote in a post posted on Twitter. "And Congress should consider the failure of the Department of Justice to conduct an appropriate investigation on the issue."
It is extremely rare for judges to be charged. The only time this happened was with Judge Samuel Chase in 1805, who was finally acquitted by the Senate.
