"It does not bother me," Trump told a reporter who asked if the public had the right to see the report. "I mean, frankly, I said in the House, if you want, let them see."

The president spoke on the South Lawn of the White House before heading to Ohio for a speech and fundraiser for the campaign.

Trump was high against the legitimacy of the Mueller investigation, but hinted that allowing people to see the report could convince them of his argument that the investigation would never have had to take place.

"Let him out. Let people see it, "said the president. "Let's see if it's legitimate."

But Trump also said the decision to publish Mueller's report rested with Attorney General Bill Barr, who mocked the amount of special council findings he would make public.

Trump said he did not know when Mueller would release the final report on his long investigation into the links between the Trump campaign and Russia's efforts to interfere in the elections.

But he said that he was not "worried" about whether the public was seeing the report.

Speculation turned in Washington that the investigation is coming to an end, but Mueller has given no specific indication as to the end of his work.

Trump reiterated his belief that Mueller is "in conflict", claiming he's "the best friend" of the former FBI director.
