President Donald Trump said early Thursday that he was ready to allow an “orderly transition” of power, just minutes after Congress officially confirmed Joe Biden’s election as president.
A statement by the president on Twitter via Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino repeated baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud, but included the cancellation.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts confirm this, there will nonetheless be an orderly transition on January 20. I have always said that we will continue our fight so that only legal votes are counted. this marks the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it is only the beginning of our fight to make America great again! “
The statement followed dramatic scenes on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, with pro-Trump supporters storming the building, forcing a lockdown and lawmakers seeking refuge.

Biden, a Democrat, and his vice president-elect Kamala Harris, won 306 Electoral College votes, 36 more than needed to secure a White House victory. Trump, a Republican, received 232 votes.
