Trump sets up ‘former president’s office’ in Florida

“The former president’s office” will handle Trump’s correspondence, public statements, appearances and official activities, according to a press release from the office.

“President Trump will always and forever be a champion of the American people,” the statement read.

The office’s title could fuel speculation that Trump may not run for president again in 2024, something he and his advisers haven’t definitely weighed in.

Trump has been publicly silent since leaving the White House last week for his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. He was banned from Twitter and suspended from other major social media platforms in the wake of the Capitol Riot on January 6.

The president spoke briefly with a Washington Examiner reporter about his golf club days after leaving office, but did not comment extensively on his future plans.

Trump is expected to reside in Florida and he is surrounded by a handful of loyal collaborators. Allies said Trump plans to back the main challenges against Republicans he said wronged him after his electoral defeat, such as the governor of Georgia. The president is preparing an impeachment defense team for the Senate trial next month, although he has not commented publicly.
