President Donald Trump criticized Oscar winner Spike Lee on Monday morning, saying his Sunday speech was a "racist hit by your president."

Trump tweeted, "Be nice if Spike Lee can read his notes, or better yet, do not use notes at all, when he tells his racist blow to your president, who did more for African Americans history, discounts tax, etc.) than almost all the other Pres!

When Lee accepted the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for "BlacKkKlansman", his speech did not mention Trump's name, but urged voters to rally for the 2020 elections.

"In front of the world, tonight, I praise our ancestors who made this country what it is today, alongside the genocide of its indigenous peoples," Lee said. "We are all in touch with our ancestors, we will have found love and wisdom, we will find our humanity."

"The 2020 presidential election is imminent, let's mobilize all of us," Lee told the crowd. "Let's all be on the bright side of history Let's make the moral choice between love and hate."

"Let's do the right thing!" he said, referring to his 1989 film.
