Trump said the vaccines “will arrive in a few weeks”, saying they are ready and just waiting for approval – and will be given “immediately to those at high risk.” In fact, there is no guarantee that the shot from Pfizer, the favorite, will get quick clearance for emergency use. Even if it does, there is no information yet on whether the vaccine works in older adults or just in younger, healthier adults. Pfizer also does not have a large commercial inventory ready to ship; the initial batches of shots would be small and targeted at certain populations yet to be determined.
