Trump stocks new PAC with tens of millions as he offers to retain GOP control

Trump’s PAC money, detailed in a new financial report filed Sunday night with the Federal Election Commission, was largely raised through grassroots fundraising appeals asking for help with legal challenges aimed at the 2020 election results. But Save America spent little money late last year, bringing in just $ 218,000 in merchant fees to Republican online donation processor WinRed.

A joint affiliate fundraising committee – the Trump Make America Great Again Committee – also filed its report. Recent fundraising calls from this group have indicated that they split the donations between Save America and the Republican National Committee, with 75% going to Trump’s PAC and 25% to the RNC.

Even after transferring more than $ 78 million to the RNC, Save America and Trump campaign, the joint fundraising committee still has nearly $ 60 million in its own coffers. Some of that money is likely earmarked for Save America, so Trump’s $ 31.2 million new PAC could be the low end of what he has at his disposal.

The former president has previously used Save America to target Republicans he considers disloyal. The PAC’s most prominent target to date has been Representative Liz Cheney, Speaker of the Republican House Conference and the leading proponent of the GOP’s impeachment. Save America commissioned and aired a poll that allegedly found Cheney’s political position under siege in Wyoming after his vote.

“Trump’s greatest weapon is his megaphone. But without his Twitter account, he mostly needs the money to fund the political infrastructure he wants, ”said Matt Gorman, a veteran Republican.

In some of his early political initiatives after the White House, Trump backed Kelli Ward for another term as President of the Arizona Republican Party, after Ward firmly backed his electoral conspiracy theories following the election of November. Ward narrowly won another term. He also endorsed former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders as she entered the Republican primary for the open race for Governor of Arkansas, to anoint him on the sitting Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. state, both of whom were already in contention.

“The popularity of President Trump has never been as strong as it is today, and his endorsement means more than perhaps any endorsement at any time,” a statement from Save America read at the following Trump’s meeting with parliamentary minority leader Kevin McCarthy last week.
