In an appearance on The Sean Hannity Show on Fox News, former President Trump made remarks that fueled tensions over the Haitian people waiting at the border.
Trump, known for his border security policies, including building a wall on the Mexican border, said the Haitian asylum seekers who expect to cross the border from Texas could have AIDS, what some call a racial stereotype among Haitians.

“So we have hundreds of thousands of people coming from Haiti. Haiti has a huge AIDS problem. AIDS is a step beyond. AIDS is a very big problem, “Trump told Hannity.” A lot of these people will probably have AIDS and they will come into our country. And we don’t do anything about it. We let everyone in. “
Trump’s comments on AIDS have sparked anger and mockery from some on Twitter, with some saying the former president is stoking racist fear and others that he is repeating talking points from the 1980s.
Holy shit. That old trope?

It is literally a 30-year-old hateful lie that Trump is repeating again in 2021. This terrible attack has made its way into our legal and political systems time and time again since the early days of AIDS. https://t.co/rkygdcyI4Q

So Trump is now saying openly that Haitians are bringing AIDS to the United States. But some of you still don’t believe he called it (and other black nations) shitty lands?
Every racist thing he’s ever been accused of saying, he said. And deniers know it. Because they say it too

This is not Trump’s first controversial remark about Haitians.
As La Colline has already noted, Trump is said to have said that the roughly 15,000 Haitians who received US visas in 2017 “all have AIDS,” which his White House administration has denied.
Trump also reportedly asked during an immigration meeting with lawmakers why immigrants from “shitty countries” are allowed into the United States, referring to Haiti, African countries and El Salvador.
“Why do we need more Haitians? Trump would have said. “Take them out. “
