WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump is expected to ask former White House lawyer Don McGahn to challenge a US court summons to testify in front of a US house panel investigating the case. the fact that Trump illegally obstructed the Russian investigation, reported Monday the New York Times.
McGahn figures prominently in the investigation portion of Special Advisor Robert Mueller who examined whether Trump had attempted to prevent the investigation into whether the 2016 presidential campaign of 39, a Republican businessman was in collusion with Russia.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Democratic Representative Jerrold Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, summoned McGahn last month to appear before the panel, and said he would hold the lawyer in case he did not show up .
"Mr. McGahn is a critical witness to many alleged cases of obstruction of justice and other misconduct described in the Mueller report," Nadler said last month.
The Ministry of Justice will soon issue a legal opinion on the summons, said Monday a department official who requested anonymity.
The Times quoted an unnamed person named in his report.
