WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States does not want to discuss Huawei Technologies' US blacklist with China as the world's two largest economies try to end the deal. escalating trade tensions.
"It's a national security issue," Trump told reporters. "Huawei is a major concern of our armed forces, our intelligence agencies and we are not doing business with Huawei.
"And we'll see what happens with China, but Huawei is not a player we want to discuss, we want to talk about that now."
It was unclear whether Trump's comments indicated a change in whether he was willing to discuss the Chinese technology giant in the Beijing trade talks.
In the past, the US president said that he would be willing to include Huawei in negotiations for the conclusion of a trade agreement with Beijing. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed this summer that the United States would ease restrictions on Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and that China would make unspecified purchases of US agricultural products.
The United States placed Huawei on Commerce's list of entities in May because of national security concerns. US parts and components can not generally be sold to those on the list without special licenses.
