President Trump plans to award New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick the Medal of Freedom this week in a bid to restore normalcy after the U.S. Capitol riots and calls for his second impeachment, according to a report released on Sunday.

Days before the end of the Oval Office, Trump will make a last-minute presidential power flex by honoring the Super Bowl-winning mastermind – and other longtime supporters – with the highest civilian honor, according to Politico.com

Trump also plans to present the award to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Monday – on the same day, Democrats are expected to present articles of impeachment against him.

On Tuesday, Trump will visit a section of the U.S. border wall in Alamo, Texas, less than a week after five people were killed in the right-wing siege on the U.S. Capitol.

And on Thursday, he will present Belichick with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which historically honors people for “the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, culture or other significant public or private endeavors.” .

Events have been in the works for a long time, a Trump aide said at the exit.

In 2016, Trump boasted that Belichick wrote him a letter congratulating him on “a great campaign.”

A representative for the Patriots did not immediately respond to Politico’s request for comment.
