The video shows Omar in March before the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), interspersed with the video of the September 11 attacks. "CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people had done something and we were all starting to lose access to our civil liberties," she said.

CAIR was founded in 1994, but Omar's office said it was misquoted and it intended to note that the organization had doubled in size after the 2001 attacks.

Several allies of the House Omar defended it at the beginning of the critics, with Rep.
