On Thursday evening, 11 GOP senators voted with Democrats to advance the extension of the short-term debt limit. The upper house voted 61-38, a count that advances the increase to the final passage to the upper house. None of the Republican senators are expected to support the increase in the final vote.

This isn’t the first case of backlash McConnell has received from Trump over the debt ceiling deal. He accused the majority leader of “bending” to Democrats on Wednesday.

“Looks like Mitch McConnell is bowing to Democrats yet again,” Trump said in a statement. “He’s got all the cards in his hand with the debt ceiling, it’s time to play the hand. Don’t let them destroy our country!
