Donald Trump's administration has taken steps to formally put an end to the asylum protections of Central American migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border.
The US Department of Justice on Monday issued a new rule in the Federal Register that would prohibit migrants from passing through another country to arrive in that country.
The rule seemed poised to provoke a long legal battle between the Trump administration and the immigrant rights groups.
