CNN's Erin Burnett surprised Stephen Moore, recently chosen by President Donald Trump to join the Federal Reserve, in a lie lie on Thursday night, while she defended him in the past.
When she mentioned her past plea for the idea, he claimed that it never happened.
"I do not really think I said much about gold, I'm not in favor of a gold standard," Moore said.
"So, I want to play something for you," she says. "Here you are."
She then played three Moore clips publicly pleading for the gold standard, including one in December 2016 after Trump's election. One stakeholder asked him directly if he wanted Trump to return to the gold standard.
"Yeah," said Moore in 2016. "I like the idea of moving to an absolute standard."
By 2019, Moore was clearly caught off guard.
"So, let me answer that," he says. "I think that a gold standard would definitely be better than what we have right now. But I think we could put in place a much better system that would not be limited to gold but all commodities. "
"So you changed your mind?" Said Burnett. "Because you are very specific …"
"I think a gold standard would be too restrictive," he said.
But he did not explain why he had lied in the beginning and said he had never talked about the gold standard. What is the clip below:
