Trump's comment: "the choice": the president said that he "joked" when he called himself "the elected"

President Trump tweeted Saturday that he "was joking" and "was sarcastic" when he told himself "the elected" to undertake trade negotiations with China. Earlier this week, Trump tweeted the claim that Israeli Jews consider him "the second coming of God."

At a press conference on Wednesday, the president defended the escalating trade war with China, saying he was "elected" to face China in the trade. He tweeted Saturday that his comments were only a joke.

Trump quoted conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root on Wednesday, who had virtually declared the president the Messiah during his show the night before.

The president was critical this week after declaring that Jews who voted for Democrats showed "a lack of knowledge or great disloyalty". Jewish community leaders have expressed concern that the president will promote anti-Semitic stereotypes by accusing Jews of being disloyal. Jonathan Greenblatt, General Manager of the Anti-Defamation League, said the charges had a long and troubling story to be used against the Jews.
