Trump's first economic adviser "is coming soon," writes president on Twitter

Kevin Hassett, a White House economist, "will be leaving soon," President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

"His very talented substitute will be named as soon as I get back to the United States," Trump wrote. "I want to thank Kevin for all he's done."

Hassett had chaired the Council of Economic Advisers since it was confirmed by the Senate in September 2017.

Previously, Hassett was an economist at the American Enterprise Institute, which he had joined in 1997. Previously, he was a professor at the Columbia University School of Business.

Hassett made waves last fall by directly contradicting a Trump tweet about gross domestic product and unemployment rates.

"I am not," said Hassett at the time, "the council chairman counselors Twitter."
