President Trump's new immigration reform proposal is a "brilliant plan", but Democratic leaders could oppose it because they are opposed to the White House's attempts to secure the southern border, said Thursday the former interim director of ICE, Thomas Homan.

Homan said Trump's proposal correctly addressed the "closing loopholes" that allowed what he called the "border crisis" to escalate.

He added that the top leadership of the Democratic Party was "opposed to anything that can protect the border".
"They have not proposed a solution to the current crisis at the border," he said. "Nothing has been proposed to help stem the tide of illegal immigration at the border."
Homan suggested that Democrats do not want what he called the twinning of border security and the expansion of legal immigration supported by Republicans.
"[That’s] the right thing to do, "he said, adding that Trump's plan still took into account" family immigration ", but that it focused on" nuclear "family members rather than on "cousins and fathers-in-law".

Homan also said that the information technology industry aspired to more skilled workers to fill vacant positions in the field.
"They need more talent to further develop the I.T. infrastructure," he said, adding that some people wanted to emigrate to America to work in the technology sector.
Homan added that he also wanted the battle against the MS-13 gang to continue in Los Angeles and in the state of New York.
Trump unveiled Thursday, in the White House Rose Garden, its long awaited review of immigration. This would radically change the way the United States accepts people in the country, changing the system to favor admissions based on merit rather than family ties.
"When it is passed, our plan will turn the US immigration system into pride of our country and envy of the modern world," Trump said in his speech.
