Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., said on Friday lawmakers would wait to hold President Donald Trump’s impeachment hearings for several weeks, following a brief standoff at Capitol Hill on the calendar.
Earlier on Friday, Schumer said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, intended to deliver the article on Monday – thus triggering the impeachment process.
Under the revised process, the item will still be delivered on Monday at 7 p.m. ET, and Senators will be sworn in on Tuesday. But each side will now have two weeks to prepare, delaying the start of the trial until the week of February 8.
In the meantime, lawmakers will move forward with other items on President Biden’s agenda.

As previously reported by Fox News, Biden said on Friday that a delayed schedule may be “better” for him to get his administration up and running faster.
“The more time we have to be up and running to deal with these crises, the better,” Biden said at a news event with reporters.

McConnell presented preliminary proceedings Thursday that would have effectively delayed proceedings by a few weeks – with the intention of reading the article on January 28 and starting the trial the week of February 15. Republicans.
Schumer’s announcement appears to be a compromise.
Democrats have argued the Senate is capable of multitasking – juggling the critical tasks of confirming Biden’s cabinet candidates, adopting COVID-19 relief measures and simultaneously undertaking the impeachment trial.
