Trump's lawyers appeal the judge's decision not to block Deutsche Bank, Capital One's summonses

President Trump's lawyers appealed Friday against a federal judge's decision not to intervene in congressional efforts to obtain the financial records of the president, his children and his society.

Judge Edgardo Ramos of the Manhattan District Court ruled Wednesday in this case, which allowed House Democrats to receive documents from Deutsche Bank and Capital One that have been summoned by the House committees. Financial Services and Intelligence as part of their investigations into Trump's personal and business finances.

Earlier this week, Trump's lawyers appealed a decision by another federal judge in Washington, which also ruled against the blocking of the Trump accounting firm, Mazars USA, the publication of financial documents to the House Oversight Committee.

In seeking a preliminary injunction for Congressional summonses, Trump's legal team stated that they were "invalid and unenforceable because they had no legitimate legislative purpose". They also claimed that the requests exceeded the authority of the committee because the documents included years in which Trump was a citizen.

Ramos disagreed, saying the Trumps were "unlikely to succeed on the merits of their claims" and calling their attempts to block subpoenas to appear "serious".

In explaining his decision, Ramos stated that "the relevance of the legislative grounds is not a matter left to the courts", but rather "left to the electors".
