Trump’s legal team disavows association with attorney Sidney Powell

The Trump campaign is disavowing its association with lawyer Sidney Powell after the far-fetched Trump campaign press conference on Thursday when it claimed without evidence that the late Hugo Chávez, among others, was responsible for rigging the election. The campaign claimed that she “is not a member of Trump’s legal team,” although President and Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani previously identified her as part of the team.

In the days following the press conference, Powell made further unsubstantiated allegations to conservative networks, and his claims were even questioned by Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, after refusing to produce his evidence in the ‘program.

“Sidney Powell practices law on her own. She is not a member of Trump’s legal team. Nor is she an attorney for the president in her personal capacity,” said Jenna Ellis, senior legal counsel at the Giuliani and Trump campaign.

At Thursday’s press conference, Giuliani identified Powell as a member of the team defending Mr. Trump, and the president himself identified Powell as someone working for him in a November 14 tweet.

“I can’t wait for Mayor Giuliani to lead the legal effort to defend OUR RIGHT TO FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS! Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis, a really great team, joined our other wonderful lawyers and representatives! ” Mr. Trump tweeted at the time.

Powell posted this statement to CBS News:

“I understand today’s press release,” she said. “I will continue to represent #WeThePeople who had their votes stolen for Trump and other Republicans by massive fraud through Dominion and Smartmatic, and we will be suing soon. The chips will fall where they can, and so will we. defend the foundations of the Great Republic. #KrakenOnSteroids “

On Thursday, Ellis called the team giving the press conference, which included Powell, “the elite strike force team.” Powell, Giuliani and Ellis claimed they were withholding their biggest evidence in court, where they keep losing lawsuits.

Powell was counsel for General Michal Flynn, the President’s former national security adviser who was sacked for lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his Russian contacts, and convicted of lying to the FBI about the same thing.
