Trump's personal assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, resigns

President Trump's personal assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, whose office is sitting in front of the Oval Office and has been the president's door since the first day of her administration, resigned on Thursday, two people close to her departure said.

Ms. Westerhout's abrupt and unexpected departure came after Trump had learned on Thursday that she had indiscriminately shared details about her family and the activities of the Oval Office which she was part of at a recent dinner with Journalists staying in hotels near Bedminster, NJ, during the president's work vacation, said one of the people who spoke under the guise of anonymity to discuss staff issues from the White House.

The breach of trust implied immediate action: Ms. Westerhout, said one of the people who knew her departure well, was now considered a "separate employee" and would not be allowed to return home. Blanche Friday.

The White House has not responded to a request for comment. Ms. Westerhout did not immediately respond to an email requesting comments.

Ms Westerhout, a former Republican National Committee adviser who also worked for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign in 2012, would have cried the night of the election because she was upset by Trump's victory. As such, the president initially looked at him with suspicion, as a deceased convert to his cause and who could not be trusted.

But some of Trump's top executives – like John F. Kelly, who has since stepped down as chief of staff – have tried to turn Mrs. Westerhout into an ally who can help them manage Oval Office trafficking. They hoped that she could prevent people from reaching the president by phone or in person, and that she would report on calls and meetings that got through.

Mrs. Westerhout's power in the White House came almost entirely from her proximity. She is not a renowned White House assistant and never appeared on television unless it was an accidental shot behind her boss. But while she was not a decision maker, she had unique access to Mr. Trump.

She also frequently shared snapshots on her private Instagram account of her life in the West Wing, including trips to Trump rallies and properties. She also joked that she had been responsible for printing a piece of paper that Mr. Trump had withheld and mentioned at a public event.
