"The transcripts of Lisa Page, of the FBI agent that have just been revealed, give the Justice Department a look exactly the same, a broken and corrupt machine," tweeted Trump. "Let's hope justice is finally done, much more to come!"
Here are the facts.
Clinton inquiry
The facts first: Trump's claims regarding the Department of Justice and Clinton's e-mail inquiry are not supported by Page's recent testimony or the findings of the independent investigators.
Trump tweets Wednesday: "Comey testified (under oath) that it was a" unanimous "decision on Crooked Hillary. The transcripts of Lisa Page show that he has LIED. @Jasoninthehouse"
Precisely what "decision" Trump refers to is not clear. But if the president refers to Comey's final decision not to recommend charges, Page's testimony does not show that former FBI director, James Comey, "lied".
Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe also confirmed the story of Comey, explaining in more detail in his book why the group of FBI officials involved agreed that it was better to describe his conduct as "extremely carefree" instead of the most legally reprehensible sentence "gross negligence". "since it was agreed that his conduct was not a criminal act.
Page specifies in his testimony that Justice Department officials "did not have the impression of being able to sustain an accusation" against Clinton, but that "no one had a closed mind" .
However, she also explains how other FBI officials would nevertheless have engaged in a "smack talk" against Clinton.
"I know that senior FBI officials have spoken to FBI subordinates from the Hillary Clinton investigation team who undoubtedly had an anti-Hillary sentiment, but who also stated: & ## You have to look for it, or – I do not have an exact quote – but as if we were counting on you, you know, "said Page.
But Page explained that FBI officials were not directly involved in any decision-making regarding the Clinton inquiry and that it had no effect on the results of the investigation.
