The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) plans to send hundreds of officials to the southern border to help the US Department of Homeland Security respond to the growing immigration crisis, Fox News said Wednesday.
"The TSA, like all components of DHS, is supporting DHS efforts to address the humanitarian and security crisis on the southwestern border," a spokesman told Fox News. "TSA is soliciting volunteers to support this effort while minimizing its operational impact."

The move, which was first announced by CNN, is expected to involve a few hundred civil servants, with a maximum of 400 volunteers, ranging from departmental prosecutors to possibly air safety officers. CNN indicated that the agency did not initially plan to use uninformed airport screening officers, but that some parts of the TSA would be asked to provide about 10% of their staff.
The spokesman said the deployment schedule has not been finalized yet and that Americans should not be concerned that the deployment will undermine air transport security because "for the moment, the deployment will not include no front-line resources ".
This move comes as the Trump government faces a spike of illegal border crossing and its president is stepping up calls to Congress to take action to end the loopholes in immigration law and clear funds to secure the border.
US Customs and Border Protection reported apprehending or refusing more than 109,000 migrants attempting to cross the border. In April, that number was over 100,000 and averaged more than 3,000 arrests a day.

Last month, Rodolfo Karisch, chief patrol officer of the Rio Grande Valley area, told lawmakers of the Senate Committee on the Homeland that his area is hit by an influx of migrants the size of a crossing caravan every week the border.
"This is not a fabricated crisis, created by those of us who live and work in the border area. The Border Patrol continues to catch a record number of people deliberately violating US immigration laws; they are exploited by gaps in our legal frameworks that undermine the rule of law, "he said.
