The Dolphins say they’re not worried about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s thumb injury. Maybe they should be.

Tagovailoa was again limited to training on Thursday with an injury that occurred not in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos but in practice on Wednesday, when he slapped the thumb of his hand on a helmet.

Friday’s training report will shed much more light on Tagovailoa’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Jets, especially since it will be followed by a designation – or perhaps no designation at all, this which would mean he will definitely play on Sunday.

The Dolphins benched Tagovailoa in Denver for the sake of performance, but coach Brian Flores said after the game the rookie would start again this weekend. If the thumb does not prevent him from playing but nevertheless interferes with his performance, he could be pulled again.
