TUBERCULOSIS IN GEORGIA: Active Tuberculosis Cases Confirmed in Two Floyd County Elementary Schools

ROME, Ga. – Floyd County Schools warn students and parents after health authorities confirmed the existence of TB cases in two elementary schools.

The school district issued a notice indicating that the Georgia Ministry of Health had confirmed a case at Model Elementary and Johnson Elementary schools.

The health department is sending letters home today with more information.

"These letters will provide more details and help you determine if your child needs to be tested," said the district.

We are working to find out how many children may have been exposed for Channel 2 Action News at 5 pm.

School officials said that although the cases were worrying, the risk of contracting TB was low. They also stated that confirmed cases are treated at home and do not pose a danger to others.

The Superintendent said Channel 2 Action News that all students and teachers will be offered the opportunity to be screened for TB.
