Tulane University announced Monday that it is closing its Uptown campus and canceling classroom classes until September 12 due to Hurricane Ida.
Tulane said it will switch to online education from September 13 to October 6. Classroom instruction will resume after the fall break on October 11.
The university said it would begin evacuating all remaining students – graduate, undergraduate, in-residence and off-campus – from the campus on Tuesday by bus to Houston.
Students are asked not to bring more than two pieces of luggage, their computers and valuables.
I met many of our students on campus this evening before they left for Houston. A large and dedicated staff have been with our students before, during and after the storm. We continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our campus and our community. pic.twitter.com/o2Xh3Ngy8e

“We are establishing a hub in Houston to provide food and accommodation at Tulane’s expense for students until they can secure return flights.
Tulane said he was providing more details to students on Monday evening and that students, faculty and staff would be allowed to return to campus from October 7-10.
The university’s decision comes in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida passed through the city, decimating the metropolitan area’s electrical infrastructure. Officials said it will be weeks before power is restored.
